This is a very large late 19th-century (c.1890) French antique sterling silver & cut glass scent bottle.
The silver lid decorated with embossed scrolling foliage. Silver mounted collar. Both hallmarked with French silver export 950% mark (head of Mercury facing left set within a hexagonal shield - items bearing French silver export marks are rare).
The silver lid is of good gauge silver and not flimsy, weighing 32.8g.
Original glass stopper.
The heavy antique cut glass bottle embellished with beautiful hand-engraved scrolling foliage and roses. Star-burst pattern on the base.
The bottle is free from personal inscriptions or monograms.
HALLMARKS: Head of Mercury, SILVER fineness 950.
